Este libro reúne múltiples posturas críticas, cada una desde su campo de experiencia, acerca de aspectos diversos de la violencia. En primer lugar, Iliana Olmedo Muñoz propone que para comprender las causas de la violencia es necesario identificar metodologías que permitan su estudio. Puesto que existen abundantes posturas teóricas que han intentado definir y clasificar la violencia, la autora intenta, en primer término, aplicar las herramientas de las humanidades para generar espacios de discusión interdisciplinaria. Sobre todo porque cuando se habla de violencia siempre se piensa en su manifestación física, su expresión tangible y externa, es decir, en la violencia objetiva, estructural o sistémica; sin embargo, hay otras formas de violencia que, no por ser soslayadas o invisibles, son menos profundas.
