Sinopsis
El estudio de la volatilidad de los precios de los principales granos consumidos en México es relevante para entender cómo en las últimas cuatro décadas ha influido en la vida de la población. Esto como consecuencia de la inflación en alimentos, sobre todo en regiones del país con menores ingresos. De tal modo, este libro documenta y analiza los diversos factores asociados con la volatilidad de los precios de los granos básicos, tales como el maíz, frijol, trigo y arroz. También se discute el potencial negativo de la inflación en alimentos sobre la volatilidad de los precios internacionales de granos y cereales, ya que México depende del mercado internacional, en particular de Estados Unidos; esto se evidencia por el crecimiento exponencial de las importaciones de productos alimentarios a partir del Tratado de Libre Comercio de América del Norte (TLCAN), lo cual ha llevado a un creciente déficit de la balanza comercial alimentaria mexicana. Los resultados de esta investigación pueden proporcionar elementos para elaborar políticas económicas tendientes a la reducción de efectos negativos sobre el bienestrar y la capacidad adquisitiva de la población en especial, de los sectores más vulnerables.
